Inspiration for this was "This is War" by 30 Seconds to Mars. Really love that band!

I also have a soft spot for Valkyries. I couldn't put a helmet on her, though. The hair was just too cool. :D

Having just finished Books 4 & 5 of the Iliad, when I saw this, I couldn't help thinking of Enyo, the goddess of war that is Ares' counterpart. She is described as holding in her hands the deafening, shameless horror of War, and the bold stance, heavy duty armour, and that mean looking sword really reinforced that image for me. Also, she is quite beautiful, and so of course it makes sense for her to be some kind of goddess--especially with the royal purple of her skirt. It would definitely take a LOT of murex shells to get enough dye for that skirt in ancient times!

The lighting in this piece is very lovely; the lens flare at the top of her sword is an especially nice touch, though I admit I have a soft spot for lens flares. As others have pointed out, the hair is gorgeous, though technically hair that long would be a hindrance in battle. The texture of the rock is so realistic, it really grounds (no pun intended) the overall composition. And the teal of the background is perfect--it keeps the focus on the subject without being too bland.

Very nice work, as always. :]
